ABS

    acrylonitrile butadiene styrene; a hard and tough but lightweight plastic used in Casablanca’s All-Weather blades

airflow    measured in cfm; the higher the product’s airflow and airflow efficiency (cfm/watt), the more energy-efficient it is

airflow efficiency    measured in cfm per watt; the higher the product’s airflow (cfm) and airflow efficiency, the more energy-efficient it is

ENERGY STAR®    Products that qualify as ENERGY STAR® prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. ENERGY STAR®-qualified ceiling fans optimize the pitch angle for maximum air delivery at the lowest power consumption. What does this mean for an energy-conscious consumer? The higher the product’s airflow (measured in cfm) and airflow efficiency (cfm/watt), the more energy-efficient it is. The following Casablanca fans are ENERGY STAR®-qualified: Capistrano, Concentra, Estrada, Four Seasons III (excluding Gallery and Hugger), Four Seasons III Outsider, Lanai, and Utopian, and all Airflow models except Builder’s Choice III and all Gallery editions.

ETL    the designation that a product has been rated compliant with US and/or Canadian safety standards by Intertek, an independent product testing, inspection, and certification organization. Like UL, Intertek is a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

ETL Listed    A product bearing the ETL Listed mark with the "US" identifier at the 4 o'clock position has been tested and deemed compliant with U.S. product safety standards only. An ETL Listed mark with both "US" and "C" identifiers at the 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock positions, respectively, signifies that the product complies with both U.S. and Canadian product safety standards.

Fan Minder®    feature on Inteli•Touch® fans that reduces fan speed as air temperature drops, maintaining comfort at night

gallery    fan configuration of motor, blades, and light fixture(s); if a motor-only and/or unipack version is also offered, the gallery version is known as a Gallery Edition.

GFI    Ground Fault Indicator. A safety device that protects people from possible electric shock hazards. A typical GFI is built into an electrical outlet to kill the power once an electrical fault is detected. The National Electrical Code has begun to require GFIs more and more, particularly in damp locations in contact with the earth or concrete. The Adapt•Touch W-52 accessory control cannot be used on Damp and Wet rated fans in outdoor locations that have a GFI for two reasons: the GFI will cause interference to the receiver on the board and also will cause the microchip on the board to fail in a short period of time.

Hang-Tru™    Refers to Casablanca’s patented easy-to-hang canopy, currently used on all Casablanca and Airflow models and 2006 Cosmopolitan models

Home-Safe™    home security feature on Inteli•Touch® fans that controls lights (when equipped with optional light fixture) in an irregular sequence, making a home appear occupied

hugger    informal term for a fan with a low-profile design in which the motor housing is flush with the ceiling (e.g., Silhouette II and Four Seasons III Hugger). The lack of a canopy and downrod make this style ideal for use on a low ceiling.

Inteli•Touch®    W-32 or W-33 control system that offers six fan speeds (in either forward or reverse direction) and full-range light dimming. Advanced features include Safe-Exit™, Home-Safe™, Fan Minder™, and Light Minder™.

Light Minder®    energy-saving feature on Inteli•Touch® fans that turns lights off automatically after two hours (when equipped with optional light fixture)

Perma•Lock™    the downrod and ball assembly used on some fans

Prime•Touch®    W-505 hand-held remote control on most current Cosmopolitan models that provides three forward or reverse fan speeds and light dimming and has an optional wall plate bracket, It features auto-programming (i.e., the user can change channels without opening the unit).

SKU    Stands for Stock Keeping Unit, an identifier (number, letters, or combination) assigned to a product for the purpose of managing inventory

UL is a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
